SEC. 65-3-5. Additions to and deletions from state highway system; Laws, 1954, ch. 298.
(1) The mileage of the highways hereinafter specifically designated is in addition to the total mileage limitation of eight thousand, six hundred miles which is set out in section 65-3-3.
(2) The following highways are hereby designated as state highways and shall be placed under the jurisdiction of the state highway commission for construction and maintenance as hereinafter provided, and such highways, together with the highways designated in section 65-3-3, are declared to be the state highway system of Mississippi:
(a) Northern district:
1. Beginning on US and Mississippi Highway 78 at or near Red Banks, thence through the business district of Red Banks, and ending on US and Mississippi Highway 78.
2. Beginning at a point on Mississippi Highway 15 approximately three-fourths of a mile south of Ecru, Pontotoc County, Mississippi, and running thence west to Hurricane Church.
3. Beginning at or near the junction of Mississippi Highway 30 and US Highway 45, running through Wheeler in an easterly direction for a distance of approximately seven miles to or near the junction of Mississippi Highways 4 and 363, all in Prentiss County, Mississippi. [A portion of this highway in Prentiss County has been deleted from the state highway system by Laws, 1966, ch. 517. See section 65-3-19 under heading "Additional deletions from state highway system."]
4. Beginning on Mississippi Highway 9 about two and one-half miles northwest of Ackerman, Mississippi, thence running to Chester, thence by way of Salem Church to intersect the Natchez Trace Parkway.
5. Beginning at a point on Mississippi Highway 35, approximately one-half mile south of Leverett in Tallahatchie County, running thence in an easterly direction to or near Cascilla and Rosebloom, and ending at a point on US Highway 51 at or near the Grenada-Yalobusha county line. [See "Deletions from state highway system," infra, this section.]
6. Beginning at the intersection of old Mississippi Highway 7 with US Highway 51 approximately one mile north of Grenada and extending in a northeasterly direction to the north abutment of the Grenada Dam.
7. Beginning at the intersection of old Mississippi Highway 8 with new Mississippi Highway 8, approximately one mile east of Grenada and extending in a northeasterly direction to its intersection with the federally maintained road leading to the south abutment of the Grenada Dam.
8. Beginning on the Kossuth-Rienzi Road approximately six and one-half miles west of Rienzi, extending east to or near Rienzi and Jacinto, and continuing east approximately four and one-half miles to the intersection of Holt's Spur-Burnsville Road, thence continuing northeast to or near Burnsville, Doskey and Cross Roads.
9. Beginning at or near Buena Vista and running in a northwesterly direction to Mississippi Highway 32 at or near Van Vleet.
10. Beginning at or near Blue Mountain, Mississippi, and running in an easterly direction and intersecting the old Pontotoc Road at a point at or near the residence of Guy Hicks, thence in an easterly direction and passing along the south side of the Luther Barkley residence, thence in an easterly direction and intersecting a road at or near Buena Vista School.
11. Beginning at or near the corporate limits of the City of Winona, Mississippi, and extending in a southeasterly direction to intersect Mississippi Highway 12 at or near Weir, Mississippi.
12. Beginning at the intersection of US Highway 82 and Mississippi Highway 15 in Mathiston and running in a northerly direction for a distance of approximately one mile to the north boundary of the property of Wood Junior College in Webster County.
13. Beginning at the intersection of Federal Aid Secondary Route 610 and Mississippi Highway 448 one mile east of the Town of Shaw, and running thence in an easterly direction along said Federal Aid Secondary Route 610 to the community of Steiner, in Sunflower County, thence in a northerly direction on Federal Aid Secondary Route 620 to the community of Linn, thence in an easterly direction on Federal Aid Secondary Route 612 to the village of Doddsville at the intersection of Mississippi Highway 442.
14. Beginning at or near Como on US Highway 51, thence in an easterly direction on the Harmontown Road to the Lafayette-Marshall county line.
15. Beginning on Mississippi Highway 7 at or near Malone, thence in a westerly direction on the Harmontown Road to the Lafayette-Marshall county line.
16. Beginning on Mississippi Highway 15 south of Ackerman, thence in an easterly direction past Choctaw Lake to 4-H Club picnic grounds; this includes a spur past the clubhouse and ending at the picnic grounds.
17. Beginning at Webb at the intersection of Mississippi Highway 32 and US Highway 49E, thence in a westerly direction to US Highway 49W at or near Parchman.
18. Beginning at or near Walnut, Mississippi, thence in an easterly direction along the road to Kossuth.
19. Beginning at a point on Mississippi Highway 35 northwest of North Tillatoba Creek, thence in a southeasterly direction to the city limits of Charleston.
20. Beginning in the Town of Saltillo, Lee County, at the intersection of old US Highway 45 and Mississippi Highway 371, and running along old US Highway 45 in a northerly direction a distance of approximately one and one-eighth miles to a point where said old US Highway 45 intersects new US Highway 45.
21. Beginning at or near Lula, Mississippi, on US Highway 61, running thence eastward to the Quitman county line on the road running from Lula, Mississippi, to Sledge, Mississippi.
22. Beginning at or near Taylor, Mississippi, and proceeding in a westerly direction approximately 8 miles to intersect with State Highway 315, same being an extension of State Highway No. 328.
23. Beginning at or near Lambert on Highway 3 and running South through Brazil to intersect Highway 32 at or near Webb.
(b) Central district:
1. Beginning at road intersection with Mississippi Highway 19 in the SE 1/4 of the SW 1/4 of section 13, T6N, R16E, Lauderdale County, Mississippi, thence in an easterly direction on the line between sections 13 and 24 of T6N, R16E, and 10, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19 and 20 of T6N, R17E, and sections 11, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 of T6N, R18E, said road commonly known as the Wire Road and beginning at intersection of Mississippi Highway 19 at Old Odom Store Place, thence in an easterly direction by way of Culpepper, Mississippi, to the Alabama line.
2. Beginning at Kosciusko, in Attala County, extending southwesterly via Thomastown in Leake County, to Sharon in Madison County, and thence to Canton.
3. Beginning at the intersection of Mississippi Highways 35 and 487, south of Carthage in Leake County, and running in an easterly direction via Standing Pine, Rosebud, and Salem, thence running in a southeasterly direction to Sebastopol in Scott County.
4. A road that leaves Mississippi Highway 16 just east of the corporate limits of the City of Philadelphia in the northeast corner of section 31, township 11, range 12, and runs in a southeasterly direction through sections 32 and 33 and through the west half of section 34, township 11, range 12, crossing into section 3, township 10, range 12, and running southeasterly through section 3, and to the east line of section 2 where the road intersects Ocobla-DeWeese Road, which said road goes by the Philadelphia golf club and Dr. Hay's place.
5. Beginning at Ford Brothers' Store on Mississippi Highway 16 east of Philadelphia, in Neshoba County, being the intersection of said Mississippi Highway 16 and the line between sections 34 and 35, township 11 north, range 13 east, running in a northerly direction via Bogue Chitto Indian School, and intersecting Mississippi Highway 21 near the center of section 22, township 12 north, range 13 east.
6. Beginning in the village of Sallis at the intersection of the business route of Mississippi Highway 12 and Mississippi Highway 429, running thence in a northeasterly direction at or near the Sallis High School to the intersection of Mississippi Highway 12 at or near the farm of S. S. Owen.
7. Beginning at a point on the old Kosciusko and Goodman Road at or near Zemuly, in Attala County, and running in a southeasterly direction to connect with a state aid road at the line between Attala County and Leake County.
8. Beginning at Parks' Store on the Louisville and DeKalb Highway, thence in a westerly direction to a point at or near Noxapater.
9. Beginning at a point on Highway No. 45 at Rush's store about twelve miles south of Scooba, Kemper County, Mississippi, thence in an easterly direction through Portersville, Mississippi, to the Alabama state line.
(c) Southern district:
1. Beginning at Mississippi Highway 42 at Sand Hill and running in an easterly direction to State Line in Greene County, Mississippi.
2. Beginning on Mississippi Highway 18, thence in a southwesterly direction to Paulding, and ending at or near Heidelberg.
3. Beginning on Mississippi Highway 20 approximately one mile east of Taylorsville, Mississippi, in Smith County, thence in a northeasterly direction to Old Taylorsville, thence in a northeasterly direction to Union Tower, thence continuing in a northeasterly direction to intersection with Mississippi Highway 18 approximately three miles west of Bay Springs, Mississippi.
4. Beginning at Progress and running in a northeasterly direction for a distance of approximately four miles, all in Pike County, to a point of intersection with Mississippi Highway 48 at or near the Andrew Barclay homestead.
5. Beginning at Gitano at Mississippi Highway 20 in section 5, township 9 north, range 14 west, in Jones County, Mississippi, thence in a southerly direction through the Hebron community and ending at the intersection of said road with Mississippi Highway 588 at or near Sand Hill School in section 35, township 8 north, range 13 west, in Jones County, Mississippi. [A portion of the highway described herein is apparently deleted from the state highway system by Laws 1969 Ex Sess, ch. 42. See section 65-3-23.]
6. Beginning at the village of Rockport, Copiah County, Mississippi, at Mississippi Highway 27, thence in an easterly direction crossing Pearl River, thence in a northeasterly direction by Little's Store and by Whiton's Store, thence to the community of Tally Ferry on the Westville road, thence by the old Elleck Banks place to the Bush Town community, thence to Mississippi Highway 20 at or near the village of Pinola, in Simpson County. [A portion of this highway has been deleted from the state highway system. See section 65-3-13 under heading "Further deletions from state highway system."]
7. Beginning at a point on Highway 20 at or near Allen, Mississippi, in Copiah County, and extending in an easterly direction to intersect the Union Church-Brookhaven Road at a point at or near Redstar, Mississippi.
8. Beginning at the Town of Seminary in Covington County, Mississippi, and running in a northeasterly direction to state designated route 588 at the Jones county line.
9. Beginning on Mississippi Highway 63 at a point approximately seven miles north of the intersection of Mississippi Highway 63 and US Highway 90, thence in a northerly direction along what is now known as the Lampton Road to Wade, and thence to Lucedale in George County.
10. Beginning on State Highway No. 18 at or near Utica Institute, proceeding in a southeasterly direction to point of intersection with United States Highway No. 51 at or near Hazlehurst, thence continuing in a southeasterly direction, connecting with State Highway No. 27 at or near Rockport, excluding that portion thereof which has been built with state-aid funds.
11. Beginning at or near Beaumont on Mississippi Highway 24, thence in a southerly direction to the intersection of Mississippi Highways 26 and 57.
12. Beginning on US Highway 51 at or near Osyka, thence in a westerly direction to Gillsburg.
13. Beginning at or near Liberty on Mississippi Highway 24 and running in a northerly direction to Mississippi Highway 44 south of Bude in Franklin County, less and except that portion commencing at Butler's Crossing and running in an easterly direction to Zion Hill Baptist Church, a distance of approximately one mile.
14. Beginning at the Jasper-Clarke county line on the Rose Hill-Enterprise Road, thence to Enterprise on Mississippi Highway 11, including a spur four-tenths mile running in a northerly direction along old US Highway 11.
15. Beginning at or near Hermanville on Mississippi Highway 18, thence making a loop through the business district of Hermanville, returning to connect with Mississippi Highway 18.
16. Beginning at the intersection of Mississippi Highways 570 and 569 near Smithdale in Amite County, thence in a northwesterly direction to intersect Mississippi Highway 44 in Franklin County.
17. Beginning at a point on Mississippi Highway 61 approximately three-fourths mile north of Port Gibson, thence in a southwesterly direction to and along Market Street of said town, thence east to intersect Mississippi Highway 61.
18. Beginning at or near Brookhaven, thence in a southeasterly direction through Enterprise and Ruth and intersect Mississippi Highway 44 at Alton Brister's Store.
19. Beginning on Mississippi Highway 24 at or near Foxworth, Marion County, thence running in a northwesterly direction to Darbun.
20. Beginning at Pearl River Avenue and the corporate limits of McComb City and running East to Jones Community, across Clear Creek, Bogue Chitto River to Price Dale and to the Walthall county line, all Pike County, Mississippi.
(3) The state highway commission is hereby authorized and empowered to number any of the above-designated highways on the state highway system and renumber any presently numbered highways, except those numbered as US numbered highways, and is further authorized to maintain, construct, take over and assume jurisdiction of the above-designated highways in the same manner and upon the same terms and conditions as set out in sections 65-1-75, 65-3-3, 65-9-1, and 65-9-3.
(4) Deletions from state highway system.
The following described roads are hereby deleted and removed from the state highway system:
(a) Northern district:
1. Beginning at North Carrollton, thence in a northwesterly direction along present designated Highway 35 to the Carroll-Grenada line.
2. Beginning at the northern limits of Starkville; thence northeasterly to Highway 45W, all in Oktibbeha and Clay Counties, in the Northern District.
3. Beginning at a point on U. S. Highway 51 at or near the Grenada-Yalobusha county line and runs thence in a westerly direction to the Tallahatchie-Grenada county line, this being the eastern segment of item 5 of paragraph (a) of subsection (2) of this section and being that portion which is left after deleting from item 5 that portion "beginning at a point on Mississippi Highway 35, approximately one half mile south of Leverett in Tallahatchie county, running thence in an easterly direction to or near Cascilla and Rosebloom to the Tallahatchie-Grenada County line."
4. The portion of state highway 310 in Panola County from Sewell's Store approximately six miles east of Como, Mississippi, to the Panola-Lafayette county line, being approximately eight miles in length.
5. That portion of the state highway system beginning at the intersection of the Greenwood to Black Hawk Road north of Black Hawk and ending at the Leflore-Carroll county line.
6. State Highway 301 beginning in Eudora and running south through Cub Lake to the DeSoto-Tate county line.
(b) Central district:
1. Beginning at or near Clinton, thence easterly to the west corporate line of Jackson, all in Hinds County.
2. Beginning at Magee, in Simpson County, and running in a northeasterly direction by the Butler residence to the George Warren Store, a distance of four miles, more or less, all in Simpson County.
