MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972
As Amended

SEC. 65-3-7. Additions to state highway system; Laws, 1956, ch. 311.

(1) The mileage of the highways hereinafter specifically designated is in addition to the total mileage limitation of eight thousand, six hundred miles which is set out in section 65-3-3.

(2) The following highways are hereby designated as state highways and shall be placed under the jurisdiction of the state highway commission for construction and maintenance as hereinafter provided, and such highways, together with the highways designated in sections 65-3-3 and 65-3-5, and any and all other laws adding links to the designated state highway system, are declared to be the state highway system of Mississippi:

(a) Northern District:

1. Beginning in the Town of Weir, thence southwesterly to the Attala-Choctaw county line. [A portion of this highway has been deleted by Laws, 1968, ch. 465, from the state highway system. See section 65-3-21 under the heading "Further deletions from state highway system."]

2. Begin on Mississippi Highway 7, thence in a southerly direction, approximately one-half mile, to Lamar in Benton County.

3. Beginning on Mississippi Highway 5 at Pine Grove Church, thence in a northeasterly direction by Bethel Church, thence southerly through the Goodwin Farm to intersect Mississippi Highway 15 at Blue Mountain.

4. Beginning on Mississippi Highway 32 at a point near Sherman Church, thence easterly to Mississippi Highway 9W, being approximately four miles, all in Calhoun County.

5. Begin at Banner, thence easterly to intersect Mississippi Highway Number 9 at Ivy's Store, in Calhoun County.

6. Beginning at a point approximately one mile south of Grenada on Highway 51, thence southwesterly to Carrollton; however, all of that part of the said link of highway lying and being situated in Grenada County is hereby deleted from the state highway system, and the same shall revert to the jurisdiction of the board of supervisors of that county.

7. Beginning at a point on Mississippi Highway 12, one mile southwest of the intersection of Mississippi Highways 12 and 15, thence running in an easterly direction to Mississippi Highway 15, being one mile more or less, all in Choctaw County.

8. Beginning at a point on United States Highway 82 in Starkville, thence northerly to a point at or near Bell's School House, thence to Mississippi Highway 10 at Phoebe, in Clay and Oktibbeha Counties.

9. Beginning at or near the southern corporate limits of the City of Tupelo, Mississippi, and extending over old U. S. Highway 45, proceeding to Green Street in Tupelo, through the City of Tupelo on Green Street to the intersection of U. S. Highway 45 and Green Street, near the northern corporate limits of the City of Tupelo.

10. Beginning at a point on United States Highway 45 approximately four miles north of Columbus where old Highway 45 intersects new Highway 45, thence running in a northerly direction to the south gate of Columbus Air Force Base, all in Lowndes County.

11. Beginning at the intersection of United States Highway 78 with Mulberry Street in the Town of Potts Camp, thence running in a southwesterly direction along said Mulberry Street to Front Street, thence running in a southeasterly direction along said Front Street to Ash Street, thence running in a northeasterly direction along said Ash Street to United States Highway 78, all in the Town of Potts Camp, Marshall County.

12. Beginning at or near Byhalia Cemetery on U. S. Highway 78 in the north part of the City of Byhalia, thence running southeasterly down the main street of Byhalia to Hood's Store on U. S. Highway 78, all in the City of Byhalia in Marshall County.

13. Beginning at or near Lishman's Grocery Store at the junction of U. S. Highway 82 with said road and running thence northeasterly to Lodi, all being in Montgomery County.

14. Beginning on Mississippi Highway 342 at Sappington's Store, thence easterly to the Lee county line.

15. Beginning at the northwest end of State Highway 346 at or near Esperanza in Pontotoc County and extending northwest to Pinedale, Salem Church, Etta, intersecting Mississippi Highway 30 west of the Tallahatchie River Bridge, thence beginning at the intersection of Highway 349 near Macedonia School and extending northeast to Swains Gin Community, Old Oak Grove Church, and intersecting Highway 78 at or near Myrtle, Mississippi, all in Pontotoc and Union Counties. [A portion of the highway described herein was deleted by Laws, 1968, ch. 461, Sec. 4. See section 65-3-21 under heading "Additional deletions from state highway system."]

16. Beginning at Baldwyn on U. S. Highway 45 and run thence in an easterly direction to Mississippi Highway 363 at Marietta, in Prentiss and Lee Counties.

17. Beginning at a point on Mississippi Highway 25 approximately one and one-half miles north of the Town of Tishomingo, thence easterly to the Alabama state line, all in Tishomingo County. [A portion of this highway has been deleted from the state highway system. See section 65-3-15 under heading "Deletions from state highway system."]

18. Beginning on Mississippi Highway 4 at or near Thyatira, thence southerly to Tyro, thence southerly to Mississippi Highway 310, in Tate and Panola Counties.

19. Beginning at or near the southern boundary of the Town of Walnut, Tippah County, Mississippi, at or near the intersection of old Mississippi Highway 15 and new Mississippi Highway 15, following the route of said old Mississippi Highway 15 running through the business section of said Town of Walnut and in a northerly direction for a distance of approximately one and one-half miles to its intersection with U. S. Highway 72, all in Tippah County.

20. Beginning at a point on Mississippi Highway 15 in Ripley, Mississippi, thence northeasterly to Peoples School, all in Tippah County. [A portion of this highway has been deleted from the state highway system. See section 65-3-13 under heading "Further deletions from state highway system."]

21. Beginning on Mississippi Highway 25 at Golden, thence easterly to the Alabama state line, all in Tishomingo County.

22. Beginning in the Village of Cumberland, at or near Bland's Store, running thence in a westerly direction for a distance of approximately two thousand eight hundred feet to enter the Natchez Trace Parkway, all in Webster County.

23. Beginning at the intersection of Mississippi State Highways 10 and 15, thence to the Village of Cumberland, thence westerly to Mississippi State Highway 9 at Walthall, the county site of Webster County, this road to be numbered Mississippi State Highway No. 10.

24. Beginning at Highway 330 five miles east of Coffeeville and going in a southerly direction across Skuna River to the Grenada county line.

25. Extend Highway No. 5 from Hickory Flat, Benton County, south to intersect with Potts Camp-Etta state designated road at Cornersville, Mississippi, Winston County.

26. Begin at Edd Gofferd place on state aid road and run south by Pinedale Stores thence through Esperanza, and intersect state aid road at Hurricane in Pontotoc.

(b) Central District:

1. Beginning on Highway 35 at Hesterville in Attala County and running west to West, Mississippi, on Highway 51.

2. Beginning in the Town of McCool in Attala County, thence northeasterly to the Attala-Choctaw county line, being an extension of the link of highway described in item 1 of paragraph (a) of this subsection.

3. Beginning in the Village of Sallis in Attala County, at the intersection of business route of Mississippi State Highway 12 and Mississippi State Highway No. 429 and running thence in a westerly direction along Main Street in the Village of Sallis for a distance of two hundred yards.

4. Beginning at a point on U. S. Highway No. 61 at or near the Town of Duncan and running thence westwardly to intersect U. S. Highway No. 1, at or near Round Lake, all in Bolivar County.

5. Beginning on new U. S. Highway 51 near Terry, thence southeasterly to a point on the Copiah-Hinds county line northeast of Crystal Springs, all in Hinds County.

6. Beginning at a point on Mississippi Highway 12 approximately five miles east of Belzoni, thence northeasterly along the Yazoo River for approximately nine miles, all in Humphreys County.

7. Beginning on Mississippi Highway 16 at Dawes Brothers' Store, thence northerly to a point on Mississippi Highway 397 approximately one and one-half miles south of Preston, all in Kemper County.

8. Beginning on Mississippi Highway 493 at Bailey's Store, thence in a northerly direction by Fellowship Church, Center Hill School and Shucktown to the Kemper county line; thence by the Earl Temple place, Damascus School, and entering Highway No. 16 at or near Daw's Store.

9. Beginning at a point where the local road intersects with the boundary line of the Town of Walnut Grove on the eastern side of the Town of Walnut Grove west of Teshalmo Creek, thence easterly through old Walnut Grove, and continuing eastwardly through the community of Rosebud, thence through the community of Wright's Springs and thence eastwardly to the Neshoba county line at the intersection of State Highways 488 and 424. Also beginning in the Village of Madden at Mississippi Highway 488, and running thence in a southeasterly direction to the Neshoba County line.

10. Beginning at the Gluckstadt Crossing on U. S. Highway 51 about seven miles south of Canton; thence running in an easterly direction to connect with Highway 43 at a point near the Natchez Trace.

11. Beginning at the end of the Golf Course Road on the line between Section 1 and 2, Township 10 North, Range 12 East, run in a southeasterly direction through the Deweese community, the Chisolm community, the Herbert Springs community and intersect Mississippi Highway 19 approximately two hundred yards south of the Neshoba-Newton county line.

12. Beginning at a point on Mississippi Highway 43 approximately one-half mile east of Sand Hill, thence northeasterly to intersect Mississippi Highway 483 at Ludlow, all in Rankin and Scott Counties.

13. Beginning at the Neshoba county line, on the Plattsburg and Philadelphia road, running in a northeasterly direction by way of Plattsburg, to a point approximately one quarter mile south of Liberty School, all in Winston County.

14. Beginning at a point on Mississippi Highway 397 near Parkes Store, thence along the Fearn Springs Public Road in a northeasterly direction by the old Fearn Springs Post Office to the Noxubee county line, all in Winston County.

15. Beginning on U. S. Highway 61 south of Hollandale and running easterly to Murphy.

16. Beginning at a point on the old Kosciusko-Goodman Public Road near the community of Zemuly in section 30, township 13 n, range 6 e in Attala County, Mississippi, being the east end of the present state-maintained highway and running thence in a northeasterly direction at or near the center line of the old Kosciusko-Goodman Public Road for approximately eight miles to intersect State Highway No. 43 at a point about two miles south of the present corporate limits of the City of Kosciusko.

(c) Southern District:

1. Beginning at a point on Mississippi Highway 24 in Centreville, thence in a southeasterly direction for approximately five and one-half miles, all in Amite County.

2. Beginning in Gloster, thence easterly to Bewelcome, all in Amite County. [A portion of the state highway herein described has been deleted from the state highway system by Laws 1968, ch. 461. See section 65-3-21 under heading "Deletions from state highway system."]

3. Beginning at the south end of the Chickasawhay River Bridge south of Shubuta, in Clarke County, or as near thereto as is feasible and proceed eastward to the Town of Matherville, in Wayne County, thence in a southerly direction to the west end of the Bucatunna Creek bridge on new U. S. Highway 84 in Wayne County, thereby joining U. S. Highway 45 and U. S. Highway 84.

4. Beginning at the corporate limits on the western side of Hazlehurst, thence westerly for a distance of four miles.

5. Beginning at the northern end of the beach highway, thence in a southerly direction across U. S. Highway 90 to the southern end of said beach highway, all in Hancock County.

6. Beginning in New Hebron, thence northwesterly to a point on the Jefferson Davis-Simpson county line.

7. Begin at or near a point approximately eight miles south of Prentiss on Mississippi Highway 13 and extend in a westerly direction to Oakvale; then continue in a northerly direction, intersecting Mississippi Highway 84 at or near Silver Creek, in Jefferson Davis and Lawrence Counties.

8. Beginning on Mississippi Highway 15 south of the corporate limits of Laurel, thence easterly through Myrick and Mill Creek to a point on U. S. Highway 84 approximately one mile west of the Wayne county line, all in Jones County.

9. Beginning at a point on Mississippi Highway 13 between Lampton and Hub, thence running southerly through or near Spring Cottage to the Pearl River county line at or near Huntshill, all in Marion County.

10. Beginning at the intersection of Mississippi Highways 43 and 26 at or near Crossroads, thence northerly to the Marion county line, all in Pearl River County.

11. Beginning about three miles northeast of State Line in Wayne County on U. S. Highway 45 and running southwesterly to State Line. Then beginning at the southern boundary line of State Line and continuing south to intersect with Highway 63 about one-twelfth mile east of Chickasawhay River.

12. Beginning at the Simpson-Smith county line at a point approximately one quarter mile west of Garner's Store proceeding in a southwesterly direction to Roy Upton's Store in the Martinville Community.

13. Beginning at a point on Highway No. 43 and one-half mile south of Shivers, Mississippi, and extending in a westerly direction intersecting Highway No. 472 at Jeff Little's Store, being approximately eight miles, more or less, all located in Simpson County, Mississippi.

14. Beginning at the intersection of U. S. Highway No. 49 at Smith's Crossing on a certain road known locally as the "State Farm Road," thence running in a southerly direction for a distance of approximately two miles along the State Farm Road by and through State Sanatorium Farm to a point of intersection with Mississippi Highway No. 20, all in Simpson County.

15. Beginning at Felder's Camp Ground in Pike County, thence northerly to the Pike-Lincoln county line, all in Pike County.

16. Beginning at McCall Creek on Highway 84 and thence southerly by Bert Jordan's Store to Highway 98, all in Franklin County, Mississippi.

(3) The state highway commission is hereby authorized and empowered to number any of the above-designated highways on the state highway system and renumber any presently numbered highways, except those numbered as United States numbered highways, and is further authorized to maintain, construct, take over and assume jurisdiction of the above-designated highways in the same manner and upon the same terms and conditions as set out in sections 65-1-75, 65-3-3, 65-9-1, and 65-9-3.
