SEC. 65-3-19. Additions to and deletions from state highway system; Laws, 1966, chs. 487, 502-504, 508, 511-515, 517, 518; Laws, 1966, Ex. Sess, chs. 35-37, 39.
Additions to state highway system.
(1) The mileage of the highways specifically designated in subsection (4) hereof is in addition to the total mileage limitation of eight thousand six hundred miles which is set out in section 65-3-3.
(2) The highways specified in subsection (4) hereof are hereby designated as state highways and shall be placed under the jurisdiction of the state highway commission for construction and maintenance as hereinafter provided, and such highways, together with the highways designated in sections 63-3-3 and 63-3-5, and any and all other laws adding links to the designated state highway system are declared to be the state highway system of Mississippi.
(3) The state highway commission is hereby authorized and empowered to number the highways specified in subsection (4) hereof on the state highway system and renumber any presently numbered highways except those numbered as United States numbered highways, and is further authorized to maintain, construct, take over and assume jurisdiction of the highways specified in subsection (4) hereof in the same manner and upon the same terms and conditions as set out in sections 65-1-75, 65-3-3, 65-9-1, and 65-9-3.
(4) Particular counties enumerated:
Attala County.
1. A parcel of road described as beginning at a point on Mississippi Highway No. 35 approximately two hundred ten feet south of the Yockanookany River in the Northeast Quarter of Section Thirty-Three, Township Fourteen North, Range Seven East, near the eastern boundary line of said section; and from thence running in an easterly direction through the Village of Williamsville in Sections Twenty-Four and Thirty-Three, Township Fourteen North, Range Seven East, to the junction with new Mississippi State Highways No. 14 and No. 19 near the eastern boundary line of Section Thirty-Five, Township Fourteen North, Range Seven East, at the Ivy Gibson Place, and being a distance of two and one-tenth miles.
Simpson County.
2. Beginning at the intersection of New U. S. Highway 49 and Mississippi Highway 540 in Simpson County, Mississippi, and running in a southwesterly direction to the intersection of Old U. S. Highway 49, and running thence northwesterly to the intersection of Old U. S. Highway 49 and Mississippi Highway 13, said described section of highway being a distance of approximately one and one-half miles and a continuation of Mississippi Highway 540 which presently runs from Raleigh, Mississippi in a southwesterly direction to intersect with New U. S. Highway 49 in Simpson County, Mississippi.
Additional deletions from state highway system.
(5) Particular counties enumerated:
Attala County.
1. The following described link of state highway is hereby deleted from the state highway system and is hereby removed from the jurisdiction of the state highway system:
Beginning at junction with Mississippi 14 in the NW 1/4 section 26, T 14 N, R 9 E. Thence in a northwesterly direction through sections 26, 27, 22, 21, 16, 17, 8, 7 and 6, T 14 N, R 9 E, section 1, T 14 N, R 8 E, sections 36 and 35, T 15 N, R 8 E, to the east city limits of Ethel, Mississippi, at or near the section corner common to sections 26, 27, 34 and 35, T 15 N, R 8 E. This is a distance of 8.8 miles.
2. The following parcel of highway is hereby deleted from the state highway system:
Beginning at or near the Town of Ethel in Attala County, Mississippi, and running thence in a northwesterly direction by Stonewall Church to a point intersecting a state road at or near Shady Grove Church in Attala County, Mississippi.
Clay and Pontotoc Counties.
3. The following described link of Mississippi State Highway No. 389 in Clay County, Mississippi, is hereby deleted from designation as a state highway and is hereby removed from the jurisdiction of the state highway commission:
That portion of Mississippi State Highway No. 389 in Clay County, Mississippi, from a point on Mississippi State Highway No. 10 at Pheba, Mississippi, to the Clay-Oktibbeha county line, being a distance of approximately one and one-half miles in length.
4. The following described links of highways in Pontotoc County are hereby deleted from designation as state highways and are hereby removed from the jurisdiction of the state highway commission:
(a) The Black Zion Road beginning at the southwest corner of the southeast quarter of Section 16, Township 10 South, Range 4 East and running thence easterly along the section lines for approximately 3.5 miles to the southeast corner of Section 13, Township 10 South, Range 4 East and the Lee County line.
(b) The Algoma Road beginning in the southwest corner of the southwest quarter of Section 30, Township 10 South, Range 3 East and running thence northwesterly through Sections 25 and 24, Township 10 South, Range 2 East for approximately 2.9 miles and ending at the junction with Highway 341 in the northwest quarter of Section 23, Township 10 South, Range 2 East.
Copiah County.
5. The following section of road in Copiah County, Mississippi, is hereby deleted from the state highway system and removed from the jurisdiction of the state highway commission:
Beginning at Carpenter, Mississippi and running southward to the point of intersection with Mississippi Highway No. 18. Said highway shall henceforth be under the jurisdiction of Copiah County, Mississippi.
Franklin County.
6. The following section of road in Franklin County, Mississippi, is hereby deleted from the state highway system and removed from the jurisdiction of the state highway commission:
That portion of Federal Aid Secondary Route 245 (known as the Bert Jordan Store-McCall Creek Road) beginning at junction with local road in Section 10, Township 6 North, Range 5 East, and continuing northerly to intersection with U. S. Highway 84 in Section 3, Township 6 North, Range 5 East, a distance of approximately one mile, Franklin County, Mississippi. Said highway shall henceforth be under the jurisdiction of Franklin County, Mississippi.
Jasper County.
7. The following link of highway in Jasper County, Mississippi, is hereby deleted from the state highway system and removed from the jurisdiction of the state highway commission:
Beginning at the junction of State Route 507 with State Route 503 in Section 15, Township 4 North, Range 12 East, and run easterly and southerly through Sections 13, 14, 15, and 24 of Township 4 North, Range 12 East, and continue through Sections 19, 30, and 31 of Township 4 North, Range 13 East to a junction with State Route 18 at Rose Hill, Mississippi.
This is a portion of the highway added to the state highway system as set out in Item 73 of subsection (2) of section 65-3-3.
Jones County.
8. The following described two links of highway in Jones County, Mississippi, are hereby deleted from the state highway system and removed from the jurisdiction of the state highway commission:
(a) Begin at the junction of Highway 29 near the center of Section 22, Township 6 North, Range 11 West, extending easterly through Ovett, and terminating at the intersection of Highway 15 near the center of Section 17, Township 6 North, Range 10 West, and being in length approximately four and one-half miles.
(b) Begin at intersection of Highway No. 15 in the NW 1/4 Section 9, Township 8 North, Range 11 West and extend northeasterly through Myrick to its junction with U. S. Highway No. 84, in Section 36, Township 9N, Range 10 West. Length 12.0 miles.
Lafayette County.
9. The following link of highway in Lafayette County, Mississippi, is hereby deleted from the state highway system and removed from the jurisdiction of the state highway commission:
That portion of Federal Aid Secondary Route 911 beginning at Mississippi Highway 310 near the southeast corner of the northeast quarter of Section 35, Township 6 South, Range 5 West and running in a northerly direction a distance of approximately 2.5 miles to the Tate county line near the northwest corner of the northeast quarter of Section 23, Township 6 South, Range 5 West Lafayette County, Mississippi.
This is a portion of the highway added to the state highway system by item 5 of subsection (5) of section 65-3-15.
Montgomery County.
10. The following link of highway in Montgomery County, Mississippi, is hereby deleted from the state highway system and removed from the jurisdiction of the state highway commission:
That portion of Mississippi Highway 43 commencing at the intersection with Mississippi Highway 407 at or near Poplar Creek and running thence in a northerly direction to its intersection with Mississippi Highway 413.
Neshoba County.
11. The following link of highway in Neshoba County, Mississippi, is hereby deleted from the state highway system and removed from the jurisdiction of the state highway commission:
Beginning at Ford Brother's Store on Mississippi Highway 16 east of Philadelphia, in Neshoba County, being the intersection of said Mississippi Highway 16 and the line between Sections 34 and 35, Township 11 North, Range 13 East, running in a southerly direction by way of the East Neshoba School, thence by way of Lowery's Store to intersect a state aid road at Paul Williamson's Store, formerly known as old Mars Store, for a total distance of approximately four and one-half miles, all in Neshoba County.
Prentiss County.
12. The following link of highway in Prentiss County, Mississippi, is hereby deleted from the state highway system and removed from the jurisdiction of the state highway commission:
That certain link of road approximately one-quarter mile long just east of Wheeler, running south from Wheeler School to the intersection with the Hopewell Road in Prentiss County, Mississippi.
This is a portion of highway included in the state highway system as set out in section 65-3-5, Mississippi Code of 1972.
Scott County.
13. The portion of Mississippi State Highway No. 492 beginning at the south line of the Golden State Park and continuing southeasterly for a distance of approximately 3.35 miles to Mississippi State Highway No. 21 is hereby deleted from designation as a state highway and removed from the jurisdiction of the state highway commission.
Sharkey County.
14. The following link of highway in Sharkey County, Mississippi, is hereby deleted from the state highway system and removed from the jurisdiction of the state highway commission:
Beginning at the south end of the bridge across Sunflower River on Mississippi Highway No. 16, thence southerly a distance of 5.9 miles to a point in Section 32, Township 11 North, Range 5 West, where said road intersects the Spanish Fort to Kelso Road.
Winston County.
15. The following link of highway in Winston County, Mississippi, is hereby deleted from the state highway system and removed from the jurisdiction of the state highway commission:
Beginning at a point where the subject road intersects a public road in the northeast quarter of Section 15, Township 15 North, Range 13 East and run in a northeasterly direction through the property of T. N. Kinard, ending at the line of said property on the east side, and being designated as Mississippi Highway 391.
