SEC. 65-3-23. Additions to and deletions from state highway system; Laws, 1969, Ex Sess, chs. 42-47; Laws, 1970, chs. 431, 432, 435, 436.

Additions to state highway system.

(1) Particular counties enumerated:

Adams County.

1. The mileage of the highway hereinafter specifically designated is in addition to the total mileage limitation of eight thousand six hundred miles which is set out in section 65-3-3.

The following highway is hereby designated as a state highway and shall be placed under the jurisdiction of the state highway commission for construction and maintenance as provided in section 65-3-3:

Begin at or near Pine Ridge at the intersection of Mississippi Highway No. 554 and extend in a northerly direction 3.8 miles to the end of the concrete pavement at or near old Pine Ridge School, all in Adams County, Mississippi.

2. The mileage of highway hereinafter specifically designated shall be an addition to the total mileage limitation of state highways as set out in section 65-3-3, and described as follows:

Beginning at the intersection of old Highway 17 and North Carrollton-Duck Hill Road in Section 14, and running in a northeasterly direction for about four miles to the Duck Hill interchange on Interstate Highway 55.

Lowndes County.

3. The mileage of the highway hereinafter specifically designated is in addition to the total mileage designation of eight thousand six hundred miles which is set out in section 65-3-3.

The following highway is hereby designated as a state highway and shall be placed under the jurisdiction of the state highway commission for maintenance, as hereinafter provided, and such highway together with the highways designated in sections 65-3-3 and 65-3-5, and any and all other laws adding links to the designated highway system, are declared to be the state highway system of Mississippi:

Beginning at a point on U. S. Highway No. 45, about eight miles north of Columbus in Lowndes County and running thence west a distance of approximately 1.27 miles to the Columbus Air Force Base.

The state highway commission is authorized and directed to enter into agreements with the United States to construct said section of highway and upon completion of construction to assume maintenance and jurisdiction thereof in the same manner and extent as other state highways.

Pearl River.

4. Notwithstanding any other provisions of law to the contrary, the state highway commission is hereby authorized and empowered, in its discretion, to maintain as a part of the state highway system existing Mississippi Highway No. 43 beginning at the south end of a bridge across Hebolochitto Creek nearly contiguous to the northern corporate limits of the City of Picayune, on said highway and thence running in a northwesterly direction approximately one mile to intersect with the new Mississippi Highway No. 43.

Deletions from state highway system.

(2) Particular counties enumerated:

Carroll County.

1. The mileage of highways hereinafter specifically designated shall be a deletion from the total mileage limitation as set out in section 65-3-3.

(a) A parcel of highway is hereby deleted from Mississippi Highway No. 35 and more particularly described as follows:

A portion of Mississippi Highway No. 35, being approximately 3.5 miles in length, and beginning at or about the northwest corner of the city limits of the Town of North Carrollton, Mississippi, and continue in a northwesterly direction as said Mississippi Highway now runs into the Southwest 1/4 of Section 35, Township 20 North, Range 3 East, to a point at or near the intersection of said highway with Four Forks public road, said portion of highway being located in Road District No. 2 and Road District No. 4 in Carroll County, Mississippi.

(b) A link of highway is hereby deleted from Mississippi Highway No. 17 and more particularly described as follows:

A link of Mississippi Highway No. 17, being approximately five miles in length and beginning at the Grenada-Carroll county line and thence run in a southerly direction along Mississippi Highway No. 17, a distance of five miles to the intersection of the North Carrollton-Duck Hill Road in Section 14, Township 20 North, Range 4 East.

Jones County.

2. The following link of highway in Jones County, Mississippi, is hereby deleted from the state highway system and removed from the jurisdiction of the state highway commission:

Beginning at the Hebron Community and ending at the intersection of said road with Mississippi Highway 588 at or near Sand Hill School in Section 35, Township 8 North, Range 13 West, in Jones County, Mississippi.

This is part of that section of highway added to the state highway system as set out in Item 5 of paragraph (c) of subsection (2) of section 65-3-5. The link of highway hereby deleted shall by passage of this section revert to the jurisdiction of the board of supervisors.

Panola County.

3. There is hereby deleted from the state highway system, Northern District, that part of State Highway No. 310 beginning at the east right-of-way of Interstate Highway No. 55 at or near Como in Panola County, Mississippi and extending eastward for a distance of 5.4 miles.

Pike County.

4. The following link of highway in Pike County, Mississippi, is hereby deleted from the state highway system and removed from the jurisdiction of the state highway commission:

Beginning at the end of the pavement on State Highway 570, in the north half of Section 17, Township 4 North, Range 9 East, and run thence northerly through Sections 17, 8 and 5 all in Township 4 North, Range 9 East, to the Lincoln-Pike county line, in all a distance of two and thirty-eight one-hundredths miles.

Tallahatchie County.

5. The following link of highway in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi, is hereby deleted from the state highway system and removed from the jurisdiction of the state highway commission:

That part of Highway 321 commencing at the O'Possum Bayou Bridge at Brazil and extending northward to the Quitman county line.

This is the section of highway added to the state highway system as set out in Item 23 of paragraph (a) of subsection (2) of section 65-3-5.

Tate County.

6. The following link of highway in Tate County, Mississippi, is hereby deleted from the state highway system and removed from the jurisdiction of the state highway commission:

That part of Mississippi Highway 305 beginning at Tyro and running southeasterly to the Tate-Lafayette county line.

This is part of the section of highway added to the state highway system as set out in 65-3-15.
