SEC. 65-3-76. Additions to and deletions from state highway system; Laws, 1976, chs. 353, 414.
(1) Additions to the state highway system.
The mileage of the highway hereinafter specifically designated is in addition to the total mileage limitation of eight thousand six hundred (8,600) miles which is set out in section 65-3-3, Mississippi Code of 1972.
The following highway is hereby designated as a state highway and shall be placed under the jurisdiction of the State Highway Commission for construction and maintenance as hereinafter provided; and such highway, together with the highways designated in Sections 65-3-3 and 65-3-5, are declared to be the state highway system of Mississippi; and to be constructed with funds available under Section 219, Title 23, United States Code:
Central District, Rankin County. For a point of beginning, begin at the southernmost portion of the intersection of the Allen C. Thompson Municipal Airport exit and Interstate 20; thence generally in a southern direction along a line between Central Mississippi Retardation Center and Mississippi State Hospital to a point of intersection on State Highway No. 468; being a distance of five (5) miles, more or less.
The State Highway Commission is hereby authorized to maintain, construct, take over and assume jurisdiction of the above designated highway in the same manner and upon the same terms and conditions as set out in Sections 65-3-3, 65-1-75, 65-9-1 and 65-9-3, Mississippi Code of 1972. (2) Deletions from the state highway system.
Lafayette and Amite Counties
The following links of highway in Lafayette County and Amite County, Mississippi, are hereby deleted from the state highway system and removed from the jurisdiction of the State Highway Commission:
Northern District-Lafayette County. A section of road beginning at College Hill in Section 36, Township 7 South, Range 4 West, Lafayette County, Mississippi, and run thence in a northwesterly direction with the Coon Town Landing Road for approximately 4.7 miles to the boundary of the Sardis Reservoir property.
The above link of highway was made a part of the state designated highway system by Chapter 435, Laws of 1962, and as amended by Chapter 515, Laws of 1968, cited as Sections 65-3-15 and 65-3-19, Mississippi Code of 1972.
The link of highway hereby deleted shall, by passage of this section, remain a part of the county road system in Lafayette County.
This section shall not be construed to delete any link of highway on the state designated highway system as authorized by Chapter 435, Laws of 1962, cited as Section 65-3-15, Mississippi Code of 1972, other than that link of highway specifically herein provided.
Southern District-Amite County. A section of road beginning at junction of Mississippi Highway 24 at Centreville in Section 7, Township 1 North, Range 2 East, and run southeasterly through Sections 7, 6, 4, 13, 14, 19 and end at junction with county road in Section 18, Township 1 North, Range 2 East, being approximately 4.8 miles in length and known as State Highway 572.
The above link of highway is presently designated as State Highway 572.
The link of highway hereby deleted shall, by passage of this section, remain a part of the county road system in Amite County. [Laws 1976, ch. 414, Sec. 1].
Wayne County
The following link of highway in Wayne County, Mississippi, is hereby deleted and removed from the state highway system and shall no longer be designated as a state highway:
Southern District-Wayne County. Beginning about three (3) miles northeast of state line in Wayne County on U. S. Highway 45 and running southwesterly to state line.
The above link of highway was made a part of the state designated highway system by Chapter 311, Item (c) 16, House Bill 302, Laws of 1956, cited as Section 65-3-7, Mississippi Code of 1972. [Laws, 1976, ch. 414, Sec. 2].
Benton County
The following link of highway in Benton County, Mississippi, is hereby deleted and removed from the state highway system:
Northern District-Benton County. A section of road beginning at the intersection of Highway 5 and the Pine Grove Church in Section 26, Township 4, Range 1 East, Benton County, Mississippi, and run easterly through Sections 25, 24, and 19 and end at the junction with Blue Mountain Hickory Flat Road, being approximately 2.4 miles in length and known as Pine Grove-Bethel Public Road.
The above link of highway was made a part of the state designated highway system by Chapter 311, Laws of 1956, cited as Section 65-3-7, Mississippi Code of 1972.
The link of highway hereby deleted shall, by passage of this section, remain a part of the county road system in Benton County.
This section shall not be construed to delete any line of highway on the state designated highway system as authorized by Chapter 311, Laws of 1956, cited as Section 65-3-7, Mississippi Code of 1972, other than that link of highway specifically herein provided. [Laws, 1976, ch. 414, Sec. 3].
