SEC. 65-3-79. Additions to and deletions from state highway system; Laws 1979, chs. 342, 459, 498, 499.
(1) Additions to the state highway system.
The mileage of highway hereinafter specifically designated is in addition to the total mileage limitation of eight thousand six hundred (8,600) miles which is set out in Section 65-3-3, Mississippi Code of 1972.
The following highway is hereby designated as a state highway and shall be placed under the jurisdiction of the State Highway Commission for construction and maintenance as hereinafter provided; and such highway, together with the highways designated in Sections 65-3-3 and 65-3-5, Mississippi Code of 1972, and any and all other laws adding links to the designated state highway system, are declared to be the state highway system of Mississippi.
Northern District-Carroll County
A portion of Mississippi Highway No. 35 beginning at the intersection of U.S. Highway No. 82; running thence north through the city limits of the town of Carrollton, Mississippi; to a point at or about the northwest corner of the city limits of the town of North Carrollton, Mississippi; thence in a northwesterly direction as said Mississippi highway now runs into the southwest 1/4 of Section 35, Township 20 North, Range 3 East, to a point at or near the intersection of said highway with Four Forks public road, in road district number 2 in Carroll County, Mississippi, being approximately 3.5 miles in length.
The State Highway Commission is hereby authorized to maintain, construct, take over and assume jurisdiction of the above-designated highway in the same manner and upon the same terms and conditions as set out in Sections 65-1-75, 65-3-3, 65-9-1 and 65-9-3, Mississippi Code of 1972. (2) Deletions from the state highway system.
Leake County
The following links of highway in Leake County, Mississippi, are hereby deleted from the state highway system and removed from the jurisdiction of the State Highway Commission:
Central District-Leake County
(a) Beginning in the village of Madden at Mississippi Highway 488, and running thence in a southeasterly direction to the Neshoba County line.
The above link of highway is made a part of the state designated system in Section 65-3-7, Mississippi Code of 1972.
(b) Beginning in the village of Madden at Mississippi Highway No. 488 in NE 1/4 of NW 1/4 , Section 35, Township 10 North, Range 9 East, and run thence easterly to a point in the NW 1/4 of NW 1/4 Section 36, Township 10 North, Range 9 East, and then run northeasterly to the east boundary of E 1/2 of NE 1/4 , Section 25, Township 10 North, Range 9 East, being the eastern boundary of Leake County line a distance of two miles.
The above link of highway is made a part of the state designated system in Section 65-3-17, Mississippi Code of 1972.
The links of highway hereby deleted shall, by passage of this section, remain a part of the county road system of Leake County. [Laws, 1979, ch. 342, Sec. 4].
Lafayette County
The following highway is hereby deleted from the state highway system, removed from the jurisdiction of the State Highway Commission and returned to the jurisdiction of the Board of Supervisors of Lafayette County:
Northern District-Lafayette County:
That portion of Mississippi Highway No. 336 beginning at the intersection with F.A.S. Route No. 851 at Lafayette Springs in the NW 1/4 of Section 12, Township 9 South, Range 1 West, andrunning thence in an easterly direction for a distance of approximately one(1) mile to the Lafayette County-Pontotoc County line in Lafayette County, Mississippi. George County
The following highway is hereby deleted from the state highway system, removed from the jurisdiction of the State Highway Commission and returned to the jurisdiction of the Board of Supervisors of George County:
Southern District-George County:
That portion of Mississippi Highway No. 596 that intersects U.S. Highway 98 and also intersects Mississippi Highway No. 57, which is a distance of approximately 7.5 miles in George County. [Laws, 1979, ch. 498].
Tippah County
The following link of highway in Tippah County, Mississippi, is hereby deleted from the state highway system, removed from the jurisdiction of the State Highway Commission and returned to the jurisdiction of the Board of Supervisors of Tippah County:
Northern District-Tippah County:
Beginning at a junction with State Highway 4 near the center of the west side of Section 22, Township 4 South, Range 5 East, and running thence north and northeasterly through Sections 22, 15 and 11 of said township and range to the Alcorn-Tippah county line a distance of approximately 3 miles.
