SEC. 65-3-95. Changes in designation of state routes; Laws, 1987, ch. 311.
(1) The mileage of highway hereinafter specifically designated does not increase the total mileage limitation of eight thousand six hundred (8,600) miles which is set out in Section 65-3-3.
(2) The designation of Mississippi Highway 12 (Chapter 6, Item 25, Senate Bill No. 1, Extraordinary Session of 1949) shall be as follows and shall be under the jurisdiction of the State Highway Commission for construction and maintenance as hereinafter provided; and such highway, together with the highways designated in Sections 65-3-3 and 65-3-5, Mississippi Code of 1972, and any and all other laws adding links to the designated state highway system, are declared to be the state highway system of Mississippi.
Northern District-Lowndes County:
Beginning on Mississippi Highway 1 at or near James, thence continuing through LeRoy Percy State Park and extends in an easterly direction to or near Hollandale, Belzoni, Tchula, Lexington, Durant, Kosciusko and Ackerman to a point on U.S. 82 northeast of Mississippi State University of Agriculture and Applied Science, thence continues from the intersection of Mississippi Highway 50 and U.S. 82 in Columbus and extends in a northeasterly direction to the Mississippi-Alabama State Line. This route includes business loops through Kosciusko, Ethel, Weir, Ackerman and a connection to McCool.
(3) The State Highway Commission is hereby authorized to maintain, construct, take over and assume jurisdiction of the above-designated highway in the same manner and upon the same terms and conditions as set out in Sections 65-1-75, 65-3-3, 65-9-1 and 65-9-3, Mississippi Code of 1972.
(4) The State Highway Department will continue to maintain that portion of Mississippi Highway 12, which is removed from such designation by this section, until such time as construction has been completed on the relocated portion of Mississippi Highway 12 which begins at a point on U.S. 82 as described in subsection 2 of this section.
