SEC. 5-3-159. Duties and Powers of Council.
(1) The Environmental Protection Council may exercise those duties and powers necessary to carry out the purposes of this chapter including, but not by way of limitation, the following functions:
(a) Conduct, or cause to be conducted, any studies, analyses, investigations or evaluations.
(b) Apply and contract for and accept any grants or gifts in furtherance of the activities of the council.
(c) Enter into all contracts, execute all instruments, and do all acts necessary, convenient or desirable to carry out any power expressly granted to the council in Sections 5-3-151 through 5-3-167.
(d) Conduct such public or private meetings or hearings as may be necessary or appropriate, and to make a permanent record thereof, in furtherance of the activities of the council.
(e) Expend or distribute any appropriated or other funds or assets in its custody or under its control, from state, federal or other governmental agencies or political subdivisions thereof, or from private grants, appropriate in carrying out the purposes of this chapter.
If the council deems it necessary or appropriate to conduct any of its activities in executive session, the council shall adhere to the provisions of Section 25-41-7.
(2) The council may request information and/or assistance from any state or local agency which may assist the council in carrying out its responsibilities under Secs. 5-3-151 through 5-3-167. Any state or local agency shall comply with a request for information and/or assistance.
