SEC. 41-45-1. Sexual sterilization of certain defectives authorized.
Whenever the director of the Mississippi State Insane Hospital, or of the East Mississippi Insane Hospital, or of the Ellisville State School, shall be of the opinion that it is for the best interests of the patients and of society that any inmate of the institution under his care should be sexually sterilized, such director is hereby authorized to perform, if he be a surgeon, or cause to be performed by some capable surgeon, the operation of sterilization on any such patient confined in such institution afflicted with hereditary forms of insanity that are recurrent, idiocy, imbecility, or feeble-mindedness, provided that such director shall have first complied with the requirements of this chapter.
