MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972

SEC. 51-19-3. Membership.

The membership of the commission shall be composed of the following members who shall represent the people and interest in the jurisdiction listed.

The governor of the State of Mississippi shall appoint one member of the commission who shall represent the people and the interest of the State of Mississippi.

The board of supervisors of Hinds County shall appoint, by appropriate resolution on its minutes, one member of the commission who shall represent the people and the interest of that area in Hinds County outside the corporate boundaries of the City of Jackson.

The mayor and commissioners of the City of Jackson, Mississippi, shall appoint, by appropriate resolution on the minutes of the City of Jackson, one member of the commission who shall represent the people and the interest of the City of Jackson.

The board of supervisors of Warren County shall appoint, by appropriate resolution on its minutes, one member of the commission who shall represent the people and the interest of that area in Warren County outside the corporate boundaries of the City of Vicksburg.

The mayor and commissioners of the City of Vicksburg shall appoint, by appropriate resolution on the minutes of the City of Vicksburg, one member of the commission who shall represent the people and interest of the City of Vicksburg.

The board of supervisors of Madison County shall appoint, by appropriate resolution on its minutes, one member of the commission who shall represent the people and the interest of Madison County.

The West Central Mississippi Waterway Commission shall appoint, by appropriate resolution on the minutes of the commission, one commissioner-at-large who shall represent the people and the interest served by the commission. Said commissioner-at-large shall be the presiding officer at all meetings, with all the powers and privileges of any other commissioner, except that he shall vote only in the event of a tie vote on any matter presented to the commission.

1997 Amendment:

SECTION 4. Sections 51-19-1, 51-19-3, 51-19-5, 51-19-7, 51-19-9, 51-19-11, 51-19-13 and 51-19-15, Mississippi Code of 1972, which establish the purpose of the West Central Mississippi Waterway Commission, provide for the commission membership, appointment of delegates and their compensation and term of office and organization and powers and duties of the commission, authorize cooperation by other governmental bodies and provide that this chapter is supplemental to other laws, is repealed.
