SEC. 51-35-131. Oath.
The commissioners shall be public officers and each of the commissioners, before entering upon his official duties, shall take the oath of office as required by section 268, article 14, of the constitution of the state, and shall also swear that he will not be interested, directly or indirectly, in any contract made by the board of commissioners save and except in so far as he may be benefited as landowner, in common with other landowners, by the work contracted for.
Any commissioner who shall fail to take the oath within fifteen days after his appointment and who shall fail to give a bond in an amount to be fixed by the court or chancellor, conditioned for the faithful performance of his duties, shall be deemed to have declined to act as such commissioner, and his place shall be filled as vacancies are filled.

1997 Amendment
SECTION 10. Sections 51-35-127, 51-35-129, 51-35-131, 51-35-133, 51-35-135, 51-35-137, 51-35-139, 51-35-141, 51-35-143 and 51-35-145, Mississippi Code of 1972, which create the Board of Commissioners, provide for terms of office, oath and compensation of board members and for organization, quorum, employees, minutes and officers of the board, and authorize the Board of Commissioners to designate depositories for funds of the district, are repealed.
