MISSISSIPPI CODE OF 1972

SEC. 93-12-1. Definitions.

As used in this chapter the following terms shall have the meaning ascribed to them herein unless the context clearly requires otherwise:

(a) "Court" means the chancery, circuit, county or family courts of this state.

(b) "Department" means the Department of Public Welfare.

(c) "Jurisdiction" means any state or political subdivision, territory or possession of the United States, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico and any province or territory of Canada.

(d) "Obligor" means the individual who owes a duty of support.

(e) "Obligee" means the individual to whom a duty of support is owed or the individual's legal representative.

(f) "Payor" means any payor of income to an obligor.

(g) "Support order" means any order, decree or judgment for the support or for the payment of arrearages on support of a child, issued by a court or agency of another jurisdiction, whether temporary or final, and shall include orders for support and maintenance of a spouse if a minor child is living with such spouse and such spouse is receiving support for such minor child from the same obligor who is liable for the spouse's support or maintenance.
